About Me

My background

Hi, I am Cat Lawson. I am a UX lead based in Glasgow, Scotland. I have extensive experience as a web designer, user experience designer and researcher across a range of sectors including:

  • publishing
  • broadcasting
  • financial services
  • health and social care
  • higher education
  • professional qualifications
  • agency

I started my career as web designer, transitioning into user experience design in 2014. I believe that user-centred, inclusive and accessible design is good design.

Qualities and values

Agile

I’ve thrive and excel in collaborative, self-organising Agile teams.

Adaptable

I love a good plan but I am flexible enough to make changes to my approach when required.

Collaborative

I have no doubt that respectful collaboration is essential to meet business goals and user needs.

Strong research skills

I believe in the power of usability studies to ensure user needs are met. Whether that is during the discovery phase or the design and development stages.

From as long ago as 2003, as senior web designer for BBC Scotland. I found it fascinating to observe users interact with designs in wildly unexpected ways. Later, through my role as a freelance consultant to a remote usability testing platform I gained valuable insights into what businesses wanted from usability studies. I worked on big brand studies, including Disney, Ugg, Russell Hobbs and the National Trust.

I tailor my methodology to suit the product. My adaptable approach and strong design background enable me to deliver actionable insights that enhance product quality and user satisfaction.
